An extra post. What do you think of a "gap year" after college (click link to a Time article)? Other countries do this...does it help a person become more focused before deciding where and what they want to do in college?
i totally support the gap year or gap years...whatever the case may be! i traveled throughout europe after high school. i changed alot during that time experiencing so much more to life than textbooks could provide. americans are so worried about time...getting things done...creating these crazy deadlines in life...too much pressure to perform. like joshua (our phlogging friend) said, learning doesn't stop in the classroom. becoming a well- traveled person who has experienced many cultures and places, is cool! and, i think a person can actually mature over this timeframe, to not have any worries of "figuring out what i want to be when i grow up!" it gives a young person a chnace to give it some thought with less expectation. and, for me it was traveling, but it really depends on the person to decide what they may want to do with their gap year.
I agree. I wish I had taken some time before college to sift through some things...get some new experiences under my belt, meet new people, do some traveling. I think it made it difficult for me in college to come up with a "plan" when, really, I didn't even know who I was.
